Caleb’s grandfather took to social media to share his grief and tell us about the remarkable young man Caleb was. He told everyone that, “Caleb was an honor student, very respectful, high intellect, excellent role model, phenomenal basketball player, ranked 25th best point guard in his class in the nation and No. 2 in the state of Alabama.”
Caleb’s skills on the basketball court were really impressive. He was even a finalist for the state’s Class 6A player of the year. During his junior season, he averaged 20.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. That’s why he got those first-team all-state honors – he truly deserved them.
The news of Caleb’s passing has hit the community hard. The mayor of Pinson, Joe Cochran, shared that he was really saddened by the loss of a young life with so much potential. He said, “No words can be gathered to provide comfort to a family and community experience the loss of young life. I was honored to know Caleb personally and loved the spirit he carried.”
Alvin Briggs, the head of the AHSAA, also offered his condolences. He praised Caleb’s qualities as a student-athlete and a role model. He said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Caleb’s family, his classmates and basketball team, and extended school family. He was an outstanding student-athlete and role model.”
