Xavi praises his side after impressive win over Real Madrid
Xavi was full of praise as Barcelona defeat Real Madrid to go 12 points clear.
When Xavi arrived at Barcelona, he knew he had to make massive improvements at Barcelona. As a Catalan himself, getting Barcelona back to its glory days was his ultimate aim. However, most importantly, he wanted to get back at Real Madrid, the arch rivals.
Since Xavi arrived, he has won 5 out of the 7 El Clasicos. The Spanish coach has rebuilt the side and instilled the tiki-taka playing style the Blaugrana is known for. More importantly, he has got the players working hard on the pitch rather than just relying on possession based passing.
Last night, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at Camp Nou with a goal from Roberto and a last minute winner from Kessie. This win gives Barcelona a pole position in the league, putting them 12 points clear from Los Blancos behind them. This will be Xavi’s first league title as Barcelona manager and the club’s first since 2019.
What did Xavi have to say?
After the match, Xavi went on to praise his side saying, “In this team, everyone runs, everyone works… It’s something to be proud of. We have won many points, which means the team is working well,”
“We were superior and the players deserved to win here. In the second half, we lost more duels, and it became more difficult, but the result is fair. I’m happy. Madrid knew how to play out of our press. The offside goal they scored came from our mistake, but I think that we were superior in general.”
“We don’t feel like champions, but this is a very important step for us. The script has been perfect.”
