Xavi along with Gavi and Raphinha suspended
Barcelona under suspension crisis and without Xavi against Valencia
Not only did Barcelona lose three points against Almeria, they also lost 3 key men, which could affect their title challenge adversely. Barcelona do maintain a healthy lead ahead of Real Madrid in the La Liga standings, but they face a tough set of matches beginning with Valencia, next weekend.
Both Gavi and Raphinha were shown yellow cards and will be sidelined when Barca host Valencia. Another key figure absent from the dugout will be Xavi who was booked once again.
The Drama on the pitch
Raphinha was booked for taking the free-kick early. This was followed by Gavi who was booked for over protesting and so was the manager who was protesting from the touchline.
Next challenge
The injury crisis had already hurt the Catalans as they exited from the Europa league. Now, the suspensions have rubbed salt in the wounds for Barcelona. The squad is without the services of both Pedri and Dembele who are still out injured.
Ansu Fati is another name on the injury list. Although he is expected to return by the time they face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, his match-fitness will be questionable.
Despite the negative energy, this brings out the opportunity to use the likes of Pablo Torre and Angel Alarcon. The duo might be what Barcelona need in the ties of struggle considering they also played a few minutes against Almeria.
