Sergio Ramos has announced his retirement from the Spanish National Team

Sergio Ramos in the most capped player for Spain with 180. On Thursday, the veteran has decided to call it a time and announced his retirement from international football. This decision came after new Spain manager Luis de la Fuente called Ramos and informed him that he was no longer in his plans.  

It was during his farewell that Ramos criticized the new coach for making this decision before considering his current and future performances.

Currently plying his trade for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, the central defender wished his time with “La Roja” could have been prolonged and may have ended in a better fashion.

“I think this trajectory deserved to end either through a personal decision or because my performance was not worthy of the national team anymore, not because of age or other reasons,” the 36-year-old defender said.

The former Real Madrid player claimed that he “admired” and was “jealous” of veterans like Lionel Messi, Luka Modric and Pepe, who are still active members of their respecting national teams.

Former Manager Luis Enrique had already made up his mind and dropped Ramos from the National team squad. Furthermore, he was also left out from the Spain squad that travelled to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ramos has contributed immensely to the success of Spain as he helped them to win the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, and the World Cup in 2010.
