They ruled against affirmative action, which is a practice meant to promote diversity and help marginalized groups. This decision has angered a WNBA star.
Natasha Cloud, a guard for the Washington Mystics, expressed her strong disapproval of the Supreme Court and the entire country on Twitter. She believes that this decision takes away resources from marginalized groups. Cloud called for unity among the black, brown, and LGBTQ+ communities to address this problem.
“Our country is trash in so many ways and instead of using our resources to make it better we continue to oppress Marginalized groups that we have targeted since the beginning of times. Black/brown communities& LGBTQ+ man we are too powerful to still be attacking issues separate,” Cloud wrote.
The majority opinion issued by Chief Justice John Roberts said that the systems in place “lack sufficiently focused and measurable objectives warranting the use of race, unavoidably employ race in a negative manner, involve racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful endpoints, those admissions programs cannot be reconciled with the guarantees of the Equal Protection Clause.”
Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with many other people in politics, entertainment, and sports, have strongly criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling. They expressed their disapproval of the decision.
