Napoli’s star man Victor Osimhen has revealed that he was close to joining the Arsenal during his early days as a professional. He confirms that he turned down the opportunity to play for the Gunners after talking to the manager at the time, Arsene Wenger.
Osimhen would have denied the opportunity considering a lack of playing time in a star-studded line-up. Apart from that, the Gunners were not helped with their inconsistent run the Premier League. Thus, the Nigerian striker instead moved to Wolfsburg.
What did Osimhen say about Arsenal?
Recalling the conversation with the ex-Arsenal boss, he said: “I spoke with Arsene Wenger and he wanted me to come to Arsenal but it was not the best option at the time.”
Currently, the sharp shooter is worth upwards of £100m and is having a remarkable season with Napoli as they are in a comfortable position to win the Scudetto. The striker has so far scored 25 goals and assisted 5 in 29 games.
As much as Arsenal admire Osimhen, they are unlikely to match the asking price from Napoli. They will instead opt for a cheap and low-risk signing while already having Gabriel Jesus.
