Why did Bob Myers decided to leave Golden State Warriors
Bob Myers, who used to be the president and general manager of the Golden State Warriors, decided to leave his position and the team. Mayer had got his hands on two NBA Executive of the Year Awards and four NBA Championships during his time with Warriors, but finally he had come to call it quits.
Although it’s solely Mayer’s decision where he wants to go, it still upsets many of his peers and basketball fans. It didn’t take time for this news to create an uproar over the internet. As for the reason why Mayer decided to leave, he shared a bit of info with us during his exit press conference.
“I have too many different emotions that I’m still processing,” Myers said.
“But the bottom line is that this job the one I’m in, requires complete engagement and complete effort. If you can’t do it, then you shouldn’t do it and so that’s the answer. I can’t do that to our players, I can’t do that to Joe [Lacob].
“I really can’t do it to myself and that’s a question I’ve been wrestling with… I’ve only known how to do things one way my whole life and it doesn’t feel right to do something when I can’t give it my everything.”
Mayer make a good point here on why he wants to leave. But it can also be seen that he wants to avoid the tough road ahead.
The position of Draymond Green and Klay Thompson with the Warriors are also in danger. The only option Golden State will be left in the end is either both of them to take major pay cuts, or trading them or having a $500 million payroll in 2023-2024.
Not that Mayer has left, Warriors best option is to evaluate Kirk Lacob and VP of basketball operations Mike Dunleavy Jr. to fill the Mayer’s place.
