Who is Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer?

Are you a Demon Slayer fan and have watched the Anime series? If you have then in the series you have seen Giyu Tomioka. In the anime, he hasn’t appeared that much in the anime series you might not really know who he really is and what he is capable of. Well for the brief introduction, Giyo Tomioka is the water hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is one of the finest swordsmen and is so powerful that he can easily any demon except the 12 Kazuki and Muzan Kibutsuji. Giyo was the first Demon Slayer to appear at the start of the story when Tanziro’s family was slaughtered and Nezoko was turned into a demon. First Giyo was going to kill Nezuko but later he saw the potential of Tanziro and also the ability of Nezuko who managed to control her thrust of blood despite being turned into a Demon. Giyo chose to believe in these siblings and guided Tanziro to become a Demon Slayer.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Giyu is an unsocialized person and doesn’t like to talk much. You will hardly see him talking to anyone. He is a man whit a strong sense of justice and what is hates the most is the people with weak hearts who can’t accept reality and cry for what’s gone instead of standing up and fighting. Giyu also hates Demons but he still allowed Nezuko and gave her a chance to prove that she’s not like other demons and can control her thrust of blood.

Giyu wears a Haori with two patterns split in the middle on either side and underneath. One side with squares of green, yellow, and orange belongs to his dear friend who passed away and the other side is from his sister who was killed by a demon. She was trying to protect Giyu. other than this Giyu also has a white kitsune mask with blue eyes which is a gift from his master.

Giyu is also an introvert who is unaware of what others think about him. When he first founds out from Shinobu Kocho how much others hate him, he was really shocked. His introverted personality makes him hard to talk to and anyone hardly talks to him. That made him hated by others. The reason behind his personality is his inferiority complex is suffering from. He developed it when his friend Sabito was killed by a demon while protecting Giyu. Giyu is in a pang of constant guilt for not being able to do anything to save Sabito. He also thinks that he should have been the one to die at that time. All of this combined made him think that he is not suitable to be the Water Hashira.

Not everyone knows this but Giyu is also an emotional person. He just puts a mask on his face to hide his emotions and look tough. The proof of Giyu’s emotional personality is that he and his and Tanziros master made a commitment to commit suicide ritual if ever a day comes when Nezuko devours a human’s flesh.
