Spanish-Venezuelan tennis sensation, Garbiñe Muguruza, revealed exciting news as she announced her engagement to model Arthur Borges through a heartfelt Instagram post last Friday.
She wrote, “You had me at ‘Hello’ ??.”
The couple’s love story began in the summer of 2021 when Borges, who was working as a model for Tom Ford in New York City, crossed paths with Muguruza. The tennis star expressed their connection, stating, “He’s a mix, like me. I’m half-Venezuelan and half-Spanish, so we understand each other. We share that feeling of being citizens of the world,” as reported by hola.com.
According to Muguruza, their initial encounter took place outside her NYC hotel, where Borges approached her as a fan, requesting a selfie. Reflecting on the unexpected encounter, Muguruza shared, “My hotel was close to Central Park, and I was bored, so I thought I should go for a walk. I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says, ‘Good luck at the US Open.’ I was left thinking, ‘Wow, he’s so handsome.'”
Since announcing her extended hiatus from professional tennis in September 2022, Muguruza has not participated in any tournaments. However, her engagement to Borges marks a new chapter in her personal life, filled with joy and excitement.
