What happened to Chelsea Gray?
The Las Vegas Aces and Chelsea Gray are currently competing in the WNBA Finals against the New York Liberty. Game 3 has been concluded, making the series more exciting, with Las Vegas ahead 2-1. However, the Aces experienced a lower leg injury that may prevent them from repeating.
Gray was injured in the fourth quarter after colliding with Breanna Stewart, who was attempting to post up from the left elbow. Stewart lost control of the ball, which fell into Kelsey Plum’s hands. Unfortunately, the 5-foot-11 guard injured her left leg during the same action.
At first, it appeared that her knee had been damaged, but while she sat on the bench, Gray informed the squad that her foot had popped. See how the point guard was hurt in the video below.
“My foot popped!” said Gray.
She dashed to the locker room after informing the squad about her wounded foot. It was tough for the Aces to create a comeback against the Liberty once Gray was removed from the roster. In Game 3, New York defeated Philadelphia 87-73.
Gray produced an excellent effort in Game 1 to assist the club in winning. She finished with 20 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds. Her performance in the opening game gave the squad an early advantage in the finals. She had 14 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists in Game 2 to give the Aces a 2-0 lead.
She just had 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists recently. She was unable to complete the game as she desired, allowing New York a chance to come back from a 2-0 deficit.
Becky Hammon shares the team’s worry over Chelsea Gray’s injury
The Aces are now in a difficult situation. They lost their momentum after leading the series and have now allowed Liberty to come back in the finals. In addition, one of Las Vegas’s finest players, Chelsea Gray, suffered a serious injury. Following the game, head coach Becky Hammon discussed how the squad would look without their floor general.
“We’ll just shuffle KP [Kelsey Plum] over; Jackie [Young] will get some duties.” Hammond said. “I don’t think there’s any one person that’s going to step up and fill her shoes. It’s going to be the next-man-up type of scenario.”
“No one person’s gonna replace her; everybody just steps up and does a little bit more.”
The squad will need the players to come up in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals against New York. Without their great point guard, Chelsea Gray, the entire squad will have to shoulder more responsibilities.
