What became of AJ Hawk? Story behind eyepatch revealed by former Packers star
When AJ Hawk was an NFL player, he was a formidable opponent. He could have discovered his kryptonite—his son, an NFL player who is now retired.
On Monday afternoon, Hawk made an appearance on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” while wearing an eye patch. McAfee stated that the former linebacker for the Green Bay Packers may seem differently before he ever remotely appeared on screen. Hawk had a patch over his right eye and was wearing dark glasses.
Hawk gave the following explanation of the cause:
“I put on a straight eye patch this morning. When I bowed down to pick Axel up, he shot his arm up so quickly that his thumb went six inches into my eyeball and, I believe, sliced off a portion of my eye.”
“A third of your cornea is gone, and it’s a big divet out of there,” the doctor told me when I visited. I can’t see; right now, I hardly see anything. It should regrow and be fine, but I’m not positive about that.”
AJ Hawk continued by detailing the history of his injury. He picked up his second kid, Axel, while attending one of his son’s flag football games. When he did, the kid raised his arms in the air and scraped his eye with his nail. He said that his eye began to hemorrhage that night and that he lost vision in it right away.
Upon visiting the doctor earlier in the day, the Super Bowl XLV winner was informed that he had lost almost one-third of his cornea. To find out if his eye is starting to recover, AJ Hawk is scheduled to see the doctor again on Tuesday.
After suffering an eye injury, Pat McAfee makes fun of AJ Hawk’s sunglasses.
Pat McAfee confided in AJ Hawk, his longtime co-host, that he felt horrible about his eye injuries. But it didn’t take him long to start laughing a little at Hawk’s predicament.
“Hey, shoutout to those glasses … they are hanging on for dear life.”

McAfee said that Hawk’s skull was too large, praising Hawk’s sunglasses for staying on. Joining in, the former linebacker for the Green Bay Packers said that he had to try on many pairs of sunglasses before settling on one that truly fit.
