Weston McKennie reacts to the sacking of fellow American Jesse Marsch

After seven-straight matches without a win, Leeds United decided to let go of manager Jesse Marsch. The sacking came after the match against Nottingham Forest, which Leeds lost 1-0.

It was Jesse Marsch, who asked the club to make a move for US international Weston McKennie from Juventus. The midfielder made his debut during the loss to Forest. However, his reunion with fellow American Jesse Marsch was cut short.

However, after a stellar performance against Manchester United where he helped Leeds hold on to the draw, the midfielder admitted that he will “miss” his fellow countryman on the side-lines.

WHAT THEY SAID:

While talking to Stadium Astro, McKennie said, “We will miss him, obviously, but at the same time, we’re focused on the job and getting points. The new staff that came in at such short notice knew the job as well. We came here and took a point from Old Trafford, hopefully, we can get all three next time at Elland Road.”

“For me, it was probably the quickest manager change I’ve had. But I know I can play under any manager and hopefully, we will find someone who fits us well.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE:

McKennie made his debut along with fellow US teammates Tyler Adams and Brendon Aaronson, making an all-American midfield. Despite putting in a good shift in the middle, they struggled to compete with their more experienced counterparts, Fred and Marcel Sabitzer.

WHAT NEXT FOR LEEDS?

Nevertheless, the Premier League side will be back on the field against Manchester United in the reverse fixture. As of now, it is still caretaker manager Michael Skubala taking charge of the team until a permanent solution can be found.
