Leeds United signs Weston McKennie on loan

Leeds United has confirmed the arrival of Weston McKennie on loan from Juventus. The midfield will stay on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy in the summer.

The 24-year-old US International is currently waiting for a work permit. Leeds United in the meanwhile has reportedly paid a £1m loan fee to secure his signing. 

McKennie’s Background

McKennie was an integral part of the US national team at the Qatar world cup in 2022. The midfielder has over 40 International caps for his country. 

At Leeds United, he will train under Jersey Marsch, an American himself. Apart from that he becomes the third US International at the club after Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson. 

McKennie began his senior professional career in Germany playing for Schalke. He made over 90 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit. In 2020, McKennie moved to the Italian side Juventus on a loan deal which was later made permanent.

During his time at The Old Lady, McKennie scored 13 goals and registered 5 assists, as per Transfermarkt.

What’s next?

McKennie becomes the third arrival in the winter window for Leeds United. He comes after the signing of striker Georginio Rutter and defender Max Wober.

McKennie is expected to debut against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
