West Virginia Basketball Player, Kerr Kriisa, Decides to Transfer Amid Coach Bob Huggins' Resignation

The West Virginia basketball team is going through a challenging time following the resignation of their coach, Bob Huggins, who stepped down after being arrested for drunk driving. Huggins had been leading the team for almost twenty years, and the Hall of Famer’s departure significantly impacted the program.

In the wake of Coach Huggins’ exit, one of the team’s recent additions, Kerr Kriisa, has made the tough decision to enter the transfer portal. Kriisa, a talented guard who joined the Mountaineers this year, has decided to explore other options now that Huggins is no longer with the team.

Expressing his disappointment, Kriisa said,  “I’m deeply sorry about the situation, as I was really looking forward to playing for Coach Huggins. Huggs will always be my guy. I’ve only known him for a few months now, but he is the most genuine man I have ever met. He is the man.”

When a coach leaves a program, players are given a grace period of thirty days to decide if they want to transfer to another team. Forward Tre Mitchell was the first player to leave West Virginia following Huggins’ resignation.

Kriisa mentioned that while he remains open to the possibility of returning to West Virginia if they hire a new coach he connects with, he wants to explore his options for now.

“I will still consider coming back when the new coach is announced,” he explained. “For now, I’m entering the portal, and want to get this figured out as soon as possible.”

Originally from Estonia, Kriisa gained attention as one of the top transfers in the country after leading the Pac-12 in assists while playing for Arizona last season.

Several schools, including Memphis, Cincinnati, and Nebraska, have shown interest in recruiting Kriisa since he entered the transfer portal. He is taking his time to weigh his options and make the best decision for his future.
