Viktor Hovland reflects on triumphs and growth in his year of achievements
As a member of the European Tour’s Top 50, Viktor Hovland is in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to compete in the DP World Tour Championship. The Norwegian did not disguise his happiness at what will be the season’s high point in his professional career.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, November 14, at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, the venue of the DP World Tour season finale, Viktor Hovland was introduced. The Norwegian gave some thought to his 2022–2023 season, especially on the size of his wins.
Viktor Hovland said the following in part to the DP World Tour press service:
“Yeah, it’s cool, but I really had no idea how much I made this year. I knew FedEx Cup was 18 million.” It is a wonderful addition. It’s okay with me. However, when I sit here and reflect on the year, particularly following the Ryder Cup, I can’t help but think about the amazing times we had in Rome.”
He continued, saying:
Then, thinking back, I realized that I had won three major competitions this year. I’m rather pleased with how I performed in those contests. I couldn’t have won those competitions earlier in the year. To be able to win those competitions, I’ve made significant progress. However, the money is good.
For his athletic accomplishments this season, Viktor Hovland was paid $33 million. Next only to LIV Golf individual winner Talor Gooch, he was the second most-paid professional golfer of the year.
How did Viktor Hovland’s 2022–2023 season go?
After an incredible 2022–2023 season, Viktor Hovland is currently regarded as one of the top players in the game. He participated in 23 PGA Tour events officially and never lost.
The Norwegian performed exceptionally well in all of the season’s major competitions, including the Majors. At the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The Genesis Invitational, The PLAYERS, The Masters, and The Players, he placed T18, T20, and T7, respectively.
He then finished 19th in the US Open, T2 at the PGA Championship, winner at The Memorial, and T13 at The Open Championship. With a T13 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and back-to-back victories at the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship, his FedEx Cup playoff experience could not have gone any better.
Thanks to these outcomes, he was able to take home the $18 million FedEx Cup.
He finished the PGA Tour with eighteen Top 25 finishes, including thirteen Top 10s, one runner-up finish, and three triumphs. He is placed fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and first in the FedEx Cup standings.
Furthermore, Viktor Hovland was victorious in both the unofficial Hero World Challenge and the Ryder Cup.
