Vikings’ defensive coordinator Ed Donatell gets fired
On Thursday, the Vikings decided to part ways with the defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. The head coach Kevin O’Connell announced that they will be looking for another defensive coordinator.
Donatell was fired after completing one season with the Vikings.
The head coach Kevin O’Connell gave his statement after announcing the dismissal of the defensive coordinator :
“Today I informed Ed Donatell we will be going in a different direction as defensive coordinator in 2023.
While this was a difficult decision because of the tremendous respect I have for Ed as a person and a coach, I believe it is the right move for the future of our football team.”
“I want to thank Ed for his commitment to the Vikings this past season, for the positive impact he had on our players and coaches, and for his role in helping me as a first-year head coach lay this foundation. We all wish Ed and his wife, Shari, only the best in the future.”
“We will immediately begin our search to fill this critical role as we continue to build a championship standard for the Minnesota Vikings.”
Donatell’s career with the Vikings
During the Super Wild card weekend, the Vikings suffered a loss against the Giants. Donatell could only score 431 yards and 31 points.
The removal is not so surprising as the Vikings went through a drastic 31-24 loss on Sunday.
They were in a win-loss position most of the time and were winning throughout the regular season. After Donatell’s arrival, the team could not do any better.
Before the Vikings Donatell accepted a senior defensive role with the Seahawks but had to leave it as he left Seattle and joined Minnesota.
