Vanessa Bryant Surprises LSU Women’s Basketball with Kobe 6s Before Elite Eight
LSU’s women’s basketball team has been making waves on the court, and over the weekend they were seen sporting some fresh kicks courtesy of a very special fan. Vanessa Bryant, widow of the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, surprised the Lady Tigers with Nike Kobe 6 sneakers in the Grinch colorway.
It’s no surprise that the Lady Tigers were excited about their new sneakers – just take a look at the images and videos shared on the team’s Twitter page.
And the timing couldn’t have been better, as the surprise came after LSU secured a spot in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2008. With a victory over Miami, the Lady Tigers will now face off against Virginia Tech in the Final Four in Dallas on Friday.
So why did Vanessa Bryant choose to gift LSU women’s basketball with Kobe 6s? According to Lady Tigers star Angel Reese, it all comes down to Bryant’s association with coach Kim Mulkey.
“She’s cool with Coach Kim,” Reese explained. “She’s a fan… The shoes were fire. We got the win.”
Reese also revealed that earlier in the season, Vanessa Bryant had sent the team Kobe 6 Protro Mabacita Sweet 16s, which honored Kobe and his daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant. However, out of respect for Gigi, the team chose not to wear them. But this time around, the Lady Tigers were more than happy to rock their new Grinch kicks.
It’s heartwarming to see how one small gesture can bring so much joy to a team, especially one that has been working so hard to make it to the Final Four. And with Vanessa Bryant cheering them on, the Lady Tigers are sure to bring their A-game on Friday.
