Valve introduces official support for customizing startup videos on Steam Deck
Valve’s Steam Deck is celebrating its first anniversary, and with it comes a new update that makes a popular modding practice official. The Steam Deck has a fun little movie that plays when you boot it up, much like other gaming consoles. However, Deck tinkerers quickly discovered that they could alter what plays during start-up by going into the device’s files.
Valve initially acknowledged this by expanding the maximum length of boot videos from 10 to 30 seconds. But now, in a new update, Valve is making that functionality official. You can customize the startup movie by choosing from several new options that Valve has put up in the Points Shop.
New Startup Movie Options
Valve is putting up some startup movie options of its own. You can find the new items in the Points Shop. There’s everything from a Turret Factory to papercraft and a flashing, form-changing one that feels reminiscent of Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Steam Deck is on Sale
As part of the anniversary festivities, the Steam Deck is currently 10% off, and this sale will last through the duration of the currently ongoing Steam Spring Sale, up until March 23 at 10 a.m. PT. Even if you already have a Steam Deck, the sale is an excellent opportunity to get a bundle of Verified games for your Deck.
Valve Struggled in the Past
The Steam Deck has had a fantastic launch year. Where other Valve devices like the Steam Machine struggled in the past, the Steam Deck seems to have found its footing in the general gaming hardware space. It has been a lifesaver for many who travel and use their Deck pretty often.
The Steam Deck has been a great success since its launch, and Valve’s new update will make it even more customizable. With several new startup movie options to choose from, you can make your Steam Deck even more personal. And with the ongoing Spring Sale, it’s a great time to grab a bundle of games for your Deck. Here’s to another year of Steam Deck!
