A significant decision was taken by USWNT on Friday that the star player of the team, Megan Rapinoe will not be playing full-time in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to some injuries she has suffered previously.

The news was reported by the team’s head coach Vlatko Andonovski this week. Other than Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle will also be playing just for a limited time. Although two-star players are out, USWNT still has Julie Ertz and others to hold their fort.

“Rose actually has been really good — she’s trained with the team now for a good three weeks, and off-and-on she trained with us before that,” Andonovski said, via ESPN. “She’s ready to play and we’re not going to force a lot of minutes from the beginning. We’ll ease everything up as we move on.

“… From minutes management, Julie is 100% where Megan is in the same boat as Rose. Her minutes are probably going to grow as the tournament goes by.”

Right now Rapinoe is suffering from the calf injury she got with her club, OL Reign, and needs to rest to recover fast enough.

“They’re healthy, they’re medically cleared, and now it’s just getting them physically ready to play minutes,” Andonovski added.

In the upcoming FIFA World Cup, USWNT is all set to have a face-off against Vietnam this evening at 9 p.m. ET.
