USWNT will be Honored with Courage Award At the 2023 ESPYs
The United States women’s national team will be awarded and honored for their bravery in the fight for equal pay. They are all set to receive the Arthur Ashe Award during the ESPYS ceremony on July 12, which will be aired on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
This award is proof of acknowledging individuals or groups in the world of sports who make a significant impact beyond the game itself. The team will be honored with this honor just a week before the Women’s World Cup begins in New Zealand and Australia.
“The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) will be honored with the 2023 Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for their resilient fight for equal pay off the field. In 2022, the team reached a historic agreement that officially split men’s and women’s pay 50/50 and ultimately set a new global standard in sports.”
Fans reacted to the news on Twitter.
“So proud of these women. Well deserved,” a user said. “Never once wavered in their fight for equal pay. Can’t wait to cheer them on at the World Cup this summer!”
“Shouldn’t the women’s team be paid more than the men’s tho seeing as they actually win stuff?” a fan asked.
“I love that this team is getting the recognition they deserve.”
Shoutout to all of the women involved who fought the good fight.
