The son of former NFL star Hugh Douglas lost his life in a terrible car accident. He was just 20 years old. The accident happened in Atlanta, and it’s left the Douglas family and the community in deep sadness.

According to reports from The Philadelphia Inquirer, this happened on a Monday. Hugh Douglas Jr., who shares his father’s name, was in a car with his friend, Christion Files Jr., from Morehouse College. The car went off the road, hit many poles, and ended up flipping over. Both young men passed away in the accident.

Morehouse College, where they were students, sent their condolences to the families. They also talked about what these young men were studying.

“Hugh Douglas was an exceptional student who displayed immense dedication and promise in pursuing a business administration degree with a concentration in finance,” said the school, as reported by TMZ. “Christion Files Jr. was a remarkable young man who made his mark academically and in extracurricular activities.”

In the midst of this sadness, Hugh Douglas Sr. used social media to remember his son. He wrote a heartfelt post, expressing how proud he was of him:

“Your father is the only man that is truly happy you are better than them . You made me so proud,” he wrote on Wednesday.

Hugh Douglas had a successful career in the NFL. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1995 when he played for the Jets. He also went to the Pro Bowl three times while he was with the Eagles between 2000 and 2002.

Our hearts go out to the Douglas family and their friends during this really tough time.
