Times When Family Battled Inside WWE Ring

Welcome to the BullScore Wrestling News section. As we witnessed on last night’s smackdown how Rey Mysterio was left with no other option but to fight his own son Dominik Mysterio at the Grandest Stage of Them All ‘WrestleMania 39’. Today, we are going to discuss those 5 times when WWE storylines decide to set up a feud between two family members inside the squared circle of the WWE ring.

So, let’s get started with the Top-5 family v/s family wrestling matches:

Nikki Bella v/s Brie Bella (Hell in A Cell 2014)

Nikki Bella v/s Brie Bella

Bella Twins (former WWE Women’s Superstars) was a team of two twin sisters in WWE. During SummerSlam 2014, Nikki betrayed Brie Bella in her match against Stephanie McMahon and turned heel. After that, their match feud starts to build for Hell in A Cell in the same year. But, Nikki wanted more from this match so she asked the officials to add a stipulation in their match that the loser will become the winner’s personal assistant for a month otherwise she has to quit WWE.

During their match at Hell in A Cell 2014, Nikki defeated Brie and then brie has only 2 options left; either she will accept to become her sister’s personal assistant or she quits WWE. Brie decided to quit WWE.

Later, they both restarted as a tag-team partner in WWE as Bella Twins. Both Brie and Nikki announced their exit from WWE earlier this month (March 2023).

Shane McMahon v/s Vince McMahon (WrestleMania 17)

Shane McMahon (w/ Linda McMahon) v/s Vince McMahon (w/ Stephanie McMahon)

The most famous father-son duo in the history of WWE has a history that they never want anyone to know about. One of the chapters in their rivalry comes during WWF Attitude Era when both are against each other and the rivalry led to setting up a match at the Greatest Event in Sports Wrestling Entertainment (i.e, WrestleMania 17). When Shane McMahon (w/ his mother Linda McMahon) fought against his father Vince McMahon (w/ Stephanie McMahon & Trish Stratus) in a street fight where Mic Foley was a Special Guest Referee and Shane won the match.

That was not the only time when Shane appeared against his father Mr. McMahon. During the Road to WrestleMania 32, he came back and demanded that it’s time now, the authority transfers the powers of WWE to him and lets him be in charge where Vince throws a major challenge in front of him in the form of a Hell in A Cell Match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 and put the stipulation that if Shane wins he will be handed over the in-charge of Monday Night Raw and The Undertaker has to rest his iconic career in peace. The Undertaker defeated Shane McMahon and later the duties of Friday Night Smackdown has been transferred to Shane and the duties of Monday Night Raw to Stephanie McMahon.

The Undertaker v/s Shane McMahon (Hell in A Cell) at WrestleMania 32

Jeff Hardy v/s Matt Hardy (WrestleMania 25)

WrestleMania 25 Jeff Hardy v/s Matt Hardy

The rivalry feud started at the Royal Rumble 2009 when Matt Hardy appeared during the match of Jeff Hardy and Edge for the WWE Championship and Matt turned on Jeff and cost him the match and the title. Matt continued to interfere in his brother’s matches which cost him the opportunity of becoming WWE Champion. Later, Matt revealed the incident of Jeff Hardy’s house being burnt in fire and his dog’s murder was actually caused by him. And, this led to the setup of their match at WrestleMania 25 when Jeff accepted his brother’s challenge but he also added a stipulation that this match will be under Extreme Rules conditions.

They both raged their anger in the match and eventually Matt Hardy won the fight but this wasn’t the end of their feud. It continued on the following episode of Smackdown.

Rey Mysterio v/s Dominik Mysterio (WrestleMania 39)

Rey Mysterio v/s Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39

From fighting for his son’s custody inside the ring to fighting him at WrestleMania this year, Rey Mysterio has seen a lot. This weekend on WrestleMania he will definitely be going to teach his son a lesson.

We all saw how Dominik Mysterio turned on his father and continued to insult and assault him in front of the WWE Universe. But, Rey Mysterio didn’t want to face his son inside the ring so he kept denying the challenge. The denial of his father left no other option for Dom but to involve his family in it. Last week on Smackdown (March 24, 2023), Dom crossed the limit when he insults his mother who was in attendance ring-side and this led the 619 king Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio to put his hands on Dominik when he punched him in the face and accepted to face him at WrestleMania 39 on April 1 & 2, 2023.

Eddie Guerrero v/s Chavo Guerrero (Royal Rumble 2004)

Eddie Guerrero v/s Chavo Guerrero at Royal Rumble 2004

The fight between two brothers during childhood was something everyone has seen. But In WWE, Two brothers fought inside the ring when they wanted to tear each other and show the world who is better among them.

At Survivor Series in 2003, they lost their tag-team titles to the Basham Brothers (Doug Basham & Danny Basham). After their match, the differences start growing between them when Chavo started blaming Eddie for the loss. This continued as chavo keeps blaming eddie for his losses and his ankle injury but somehow Kurt Angle tried to reunite them as a team and give them a chance to become the champions again. They lost the match and now chavo started to attack eddie. This led to no other option for then Smackdown’s GM Paul Heyman to announce the match between Eddie and Chavo Guerrero the same year at Royal Rumble.

Eddie took revenge when he defeated Chavo at Royal Rumble 2004. But later on November 13, 2005, Eddie suffered a heart attack during his fight inside the ring which caused his death.
