Top 5 kids given a debut by Pep Guardiola
Back when Pep Guardiola managed FC Barcelona, he put his trust in youth from the academy and foreign recruits. However, not every gamble of his went on the succeed at the club. Let’s take a look at where they are now.
Sergio Busquets
Is there really any doubt about Busquets? One of the finest midfielders to grace the game of football. Busquets is a La Masia product and has had a decorated career. He was part of the legendary mid-field trio alongside Xavi and Iniesta.
In 2023, the defensive midfielder is still a crucial piece to the style of football the Blaugrana play. The veteran currently captains the side and despite his age, there are only a few who can claim to be as good as he is in his position.
Thiago
Thiago was one of the most creative players to come out of La Masia. The midfielder made his debut at the age of 18 against Mallorca in 2009. However, after failing to get game-time ahead of Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets, he followed Pep to Bayern as he left the club.
Despite having to leave the club, he had a trophy-laden spell for the Bavarians. He won seven straight Bundesligas, 4 DFB Pokals, and a UCL title.
Marc Bartra
In February 2010, Bartra earned his debut against Atletico Madrid. However, during his six seasons at the club, he failed to get playing time ahead of great defenders such as Pique, Puyol, and Mascherano.
However, since then the center-back has been pretty decent. Having spent two seasons at Borussia Dortmund he returned to Spain to sign for Real Betis. Last season, he managed to lift the Copa Del Rey title before moving to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
Sergi Roberto
Roberto is another La Masia graduate who made his first team debut in a 5-1 over Ceuta in the Copa del Rey.
The Catalan is one of the club’s captains and is known for his versatility on the field. He has won six La Liga titles, six Copa Del Rey, and two UCL titles. Apart from that, he is famously known for his last-minute winner in Barcelona’s 6-5 comeback against PSG in 2017.
Cristian Tello
The winger was predicted to have a bright future at the club when he scored a brace in his UCL debut against Bayer Leverkusen.
Despite showing a glimpse of brilliance, the Spaniard fell down the pecking order after Neymar’s arrival. In 2017, he moved to Real Betis, playing five seasons at the club before moving to LAFC in the MLS.
