Texas Longhorns’ Timmy Allen Cleared to Play in NCAA Tournament, Will Start vs Colgate
The Texas Longhorns basketball team recently faced a setback when fifth-year forward Timmy Allen suffered a leg injury and was sidelined for the Big 12 Tournament. However, the team managed to clinch the conference’s automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament by defeating Kansas in the championship game. The good news is that Allen will be back in action for the opening round game against Colgate this week, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Allen, who previously played for Utah in the Pac-12 before joining Texas, averaged 12.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game with shooting splits of 49.3%, 26.7%, and 73.1% last season. This season, he averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists with shooting splits of 48.2%, 11.1%, and 69.3%, respectively. Although the Longhorns lost in the second round of March Madness last season to Purdue, they are aiming to go further this year with the help of interim head coach Rodney Terry and Allen’s return.
Texas is considered to be a strong contender for the national title, and with Allen back in the lineup, their chances are even better. It remains to be seen how they will perform in the upcoming games, but fans of the Longhorns are no doubt excited to see Allen back on the court.
