Texas Cheerleader Shares Terrifying Experience of Being Shot for Entering Wrong Car

It has been two months since two cheerleaders from Texas were shot after mistakenly getting into the wrong car. Now, one of the victims has bravely spoken out about the night that changed her life.

In an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Payton Washington shared the extent of her injuries from the shooting.

“My spleen was shattered. My stomach had two holes in it. And my diaphragm had two holes in it … I had 32 staples,” Washington revealed.

Heather Roth, Washington’s teammate, was fortunate to only have a minor injury from the incident.

The incident occurred in April when Washington, Roth, and two other teammates from Woodlands Elite Cheer Company had finished practice and were in the parking lot. Roth mistakenly opened the door of a car, thinking it was hers, but instead found a stranger named Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr. sitting in the passenger seat.

Roth quickly realized her mistake and went to her own car. However, Rodriguez followed her and approached her vehicle. When Roth rolled down the window to apologize, Rodriguez started shooting.

The cheerleaders managed to drive away, but Washington sustained serious wounds and had to be taken to the hospital.

Rodriguez has since been arrested and is facing felony charges in Texas.

Despite the challenging ordeal, Washington managed to recover from her injuries within five weeks and was able to join her teammates for graduation.
