Tennis Influencer Rachel Stuhlmann Shares Thoughts on Pickleball

Former college tennis player and influencer Rachel Stuhlmann recently made her views clear about pickleball’s impact on tennis. In this article, we’ll delve into her perspective and the facts surrounding this ongoing debate.

Stuhlmann believes pickleball isn’t causing major problems for tennis. She stated, “[Pickleball] is not ‘wreaking havoc’ on tennis.” She sees pickleball as a fun and social activity that brings people together, although she does get annoyed when tennis courts are transformed into pickleball courts.

This discussion followed her announcement of a partnership with Toss and Spin to make racquet sports more accessible. In a promotional video for this partnership, she held a pickleball racquet, which led to mixed reactions.

Stuhlmann shared her take on tennis and pickleball’s popularity. “When it comes to the two sports, it seems like right now more people play pickleball than watch it, and more people watch tennis than play it,” she noted. She emphasized that pickleball is easy for anyone to pick up, whereas tennis can be intimidating for newcomers. Her goal is to make tennis more popular, relatable, and accessible.

Stuhlmann also finds professional pickleball fascinating, noting that it’s unique as you can start playing in your 20s, 30s, or 40s and become a top-10 ranked player in the world – something rare in sports.

While some may worry about pickleball enthusiasts overtaking tennis courts, Stuhlmann’s view highlights the importance of embracing this emerging and accessible sport. It’s a significant change in racquet sports, broadening the options for athletes and enthusiasts alike.
