Ten Hag defends Casemiro over receiving a red card
Casemiro receives two red cards within 37 days
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag came to the rescue of Casemiro calling him tough but a fair player. This was after the Brazilian received a red card at Old Trafford as United drooped points in a tough draw against Southampton.
It was a rough challenge on Carlos Alcaraz which forced the referee to book Casemiro. As a result, the Brazilian midfielder will miss four crucial matches for the Red Devils. As of now, Manchester United sit third in the Premier League, however, they will miss Casemiro as they face Real Betis next in the Europa League tie on March 16.
What did Ten Hag have to say?
The Dutch manager blamed the inconsistency of referees as he said, “What I think is the inconsistency (means) players don’t know any more what is the policy and I think it’s all across the league.
“I think especially the first one I think for me was clear and obvious handball. So, what is the policy?” asked Ten Hag.
“Casemiro, across European leagues and over 500 games yet (he’s) never had a red card and now he had (it) twice. Overthink that. He plays fair and also in this he is playing fair. Same against Crystal Palace so it’s very debatable,” Ten Hag added as he talked about Casemiro’s calibre.
“Of course when you freeze it, it looks bad. Everyone who knows something about football, they know what is bad and what isn’t bad and what is fair. I tell you, Casemiro is a really fair player. Tough, yeah but fair,” said Ten Hag.
