TCU Center Eddie Lampkin Leaves Team After Allegations of Verbal Abuse and Racial Remarks by Coach Jamie Dixon
The TCU basketball community was rocked on March 8th, 2023 when junior center Eddie Lampkin announced that he was stepping away from the team due to alleged verbal abuse and “racial remarks” made by head coach Jamie Dixon. Lampkin’s departure has left a major hole in TCU’s lineup heading into the BIG 12 Conference Tournament.
Lampkin’s Mother Speaks Out, Dixon Denies Allegations
Lampkin’s mother spoke out about the allegations, claiming that her son had been subjected to constant berating and yelling. “It was just too much,” she said in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It’s not fair for him to have to put up with that.” Lampkin’s mother stated that the abuse had been ongoing and had taken a toll on her son’s mental health.
In response to the allegations, the university released a statement affirming its commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for all student-athletes. The university also confirmed that Lampkin was no longer with the team.
Dixon, however, denied the allegations of verbal abuse and “racial remarks”. “I want to make it clear that I did not make any racially insensitive comments to Eddie Lampkin or any other player,” he said in a statement.
The allegations have raised concerns about the treatment of student-athletes and the need for coaches to create a safe and positive environment. Lampkin’s departure has also left TCU with some big shoes to fill, as he had played in 26 games this season and averaged 4.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
