Taylor Swift mania takes over Chiefs vs. Jets game amid Travis Kelce dating rumors

Taylor Swift’s most recent visit to MetLife Stadium was as a performer, the third of three nights she spent there as part of her “Eras Tour” in May.

On Sunday, she was only a bystander, rooting on boyfriend Travis Kelce as his Kansas City Chiefs met the New York Jets on “Sunday Night Football.”

The purported Swift-Kelce friendship symbolized the height of the euphoria surrounding the organization’s “Winning Era,” which has included three Super Bowl trips (two titles) and lots of triumphs for the many Chiefs – and Jets – fans in attendance.

“I’ve never seen this much attention paid to the Chiefs,” remarked Reading, Pennsylvania resident Josh Mayer. “Every single TV show is discussing it, which is wonderful. Every TikTok I’ve seen has been about the Chiefs and how much these Swifties love football. It’s like, ‘Oh, this is very great.'”

Mayer, 41, recalls a time before Patrick Mahomes when the franchise seemed barely deserving of increased interest.

“Now to be something, and with (Kelce) in the public eye?” “It’s fine,” he said. “I also enjoy all of the attention.” Those who wish to participate? “I mean, why not?”

Mayer and his stepdaughter Courtney Bowles were strolling through the parking lot. Bowles, a 16-year-old Swiftie, was eager to attend the game regardless of whether Swift was present.

“I’d be shocked if she was here if she was at the last game,” Bowles stated.

Swift was expected to attend the “SNF” game earlier this week, according to Front Office Sports. Swift dined with Brittany Mahomes, Blake Lively, and Sophie Turner in New York City on Saturday, according to Page Six.

Swift led a star-studded crew that included Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman through a security post near the stadium’s loading dock approximately 40 minutes before the start.

Swift’s “Love Story” blared on a speaker system three hours earlier in stadium parking lot L as charter buses unloaded and people began tailgating. The broad consensus among the “Swifties” in attendance seemed to be in favor of the famous pair.

“I think it’s nice she found almost her equal, obviously in a different career, but kind of someone who is career-driven and passionate about their work,” said Long Beach, New York resident Joanna Gruenberg.

Gruenberg and her pals were originally planning to attend Sunday’s game, but when whispers of Swift’s possible presence began to circulate, they were determined they had to be there.

“Knowing that she might be here solidified the deal for us,” said Katie McGoldrick, a Long Beach resident. “However, it wasn’t confirmed when we bought the tickets.” However, it heightened our excitement.

“We’re going to keep an eye on the jumbotron.” I’m making every effort to see her. That would be wonderful; it would brighten my day.”

Jennifer Steinhilb has been a fan of Swift since she was a backup singer for Brad Paisley 17 years ago. The Steinhillb family had one of the finer tailgate decorations, a pink flag that read “Taylor Swift 2024: Save America Again.”

“I’m just happy for her,” Steinhilb, 34, of Sparta, New Jersey, said. “She deserves the world.”

One tailgate group was blasting a Swift playlist, with “Blank Space” giving way to “Style” and other favourites.

“My one concern is, what if he gets nervous in front of her and drops the ball?” Jodi Cobb, a Kansas City native and Chiefs fan who travelled for the game, agreed.

Lauren Stevko described herself as a “Kelce girl” for the past six years.

“So I know he’s built himself up,” said Stevko, 30, “but Taylor just adds to it.”

And how does one go about becoming a “Kelce girl”?

“He’s just an attractive guy,” Patchogue, New York native, stated.

Lea Morace, Stevko’s friend, has great hopes for the relationship.

“I kind of believe this one is going to work out,” Morace, 65, remarked. “They’re going to marry, have children, and settle down.” “It’ll happen one, two, three.”

Stevko can contribute to that future. But it’s still early, she says, and they need some space and time.

“It feels like they’re just figuring it out,” Stevko explained. “If they end up marrying and having children, that’s fantastic.” But they’re only humans. Everyone is following them as if it were a PR stunt, which I understand.”
