System Shock Remake Set to Launch on May 30th
After a long development cycle that started in 2015, the System Shock Remake finally has a firm release date for PC. The game will be available starting May 30th, while console versions will come out at an unspecified later date. The game can already be pre-ordered on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store.
What is System Shock?
System Shock is a fully-fledged remake of the original first-person game by Looking Glass Studios, which inspired iconic titles such as Deus Ex, Prey, and BioShock. In the upcoming remake, players will explore and fight their way through Citadel Station, facing new types of enemies, puzzles, traps, and secrets.
What to Expect from the Remake?
The remake offers revamped gameplay mechanics, enemy AI, controls, user interface, and reworked HD visuals, sound, and music. Players will use a combination of stealth, hacking, and firearms to progress through the game. The game is expected to deliver a pure feeling of the original game and offer new surprises for fans.
Console Versions in Development
Console versions of the game are also in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, but Nightdive Studios has not yet announced a release date. Fans will have to wait for further announcements from the team.
A Year of Remakes
2023 is shaping up to be a year of remakes, with several notable titles set to release, including Dead Space, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and Resident Evil 4. System Shock is just one of many remakes coming in the next few months, with Gothic, Silent Hill 2, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth among others rumored to be in the works.
