Steve Smith’s ‘Just a Guy’ Comment Trending as Jerry Jeudy Faces Tough Game

If you’re just catching up on the Chiefs-Broncos game, you might’ve missed the pre-game chat between Steve Smith Sr. and Jerry Jeudy.

Live on NFL Network, Smith shared his plan to apologize to Jeudy for calling him “just a guy” in the past. But the apology didn’t go as smoothly as he’d hoped.

Smith Sr. said, “The word that I’ve used to describe him in the past was a JAG (just a guy). So, when I saw him, he was playing well, so I wanted to say to him face-to-face, ‘Hey, I know I said some things in the past that I probably shouldn’t have and I’m sorry.’ That’s what I wanted to say. His response was, ‘Ninja, I don’t want to mess with you.’ So I’ll say it again: I’m sorry I said you were a JAG, who’s an average wide receiver they used a first-round pick on. I hope today you actually show up in a way that you haven’t shown up in the last couple of years since they drafted you.”

Jeudy appeared to respond to the criticism by dancing and making noise behind Smith while he was on air. But his performance tonight, with only three receptions and 14 yards, has many people on social media, including X/Twitter, agreeing with Smith’s initial assessment.

To be fair to Jeudy, the Broncos have struggled offensively, and quarterback Russell Wilson hasn’t been at his best. It’s not entirely his fault that he hasn’t been very productive tonight.

We’ll have to see what Jeudy has to say about Smith’s comments in the postgame interviews.
