Steelers Lock in Alex Highsmith with a $68 Million Extension
Pittsburgh Steelers have just announced that they’ve signed Alex Highsmith, their talented outside linebacker, to a fantastic contract extension. This new deal is worth a whopping $68 million and will keep Highsmith with the team for the next four years. We got all the details from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Highsmith had an outstanding season last year, making it his best one yet. He achieved an impressive 14.5 sacks, 63 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 20 hits on opposing quarterbacks, and even led the whole league with five forced fumbles. His performance was truly remarkable, and he ranked sixth among all players in the NFL for sacks. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Now, Highsmith joins T.J. Watt, another standout player on the Steelers, who also signed a contract extension. This means that these two talented individuals will be playing together for the next four seasons. It’s a great move for the team, as they can rely on their powerful defense line. In fact, Highsmith now becomes the seventh highest-paid outside linebacker in the entire NFL, which shows just how much his skills are valued.
Looking ahead, the Steelers will be focusing on securing their tight end, Pat Freiermuth, and their running back, Najee Harris, as they still have a couple of years left on their rookie contracts. Additionally, they need to make decisions about Cam Heyward’s future for the upcoming season.
Highsmith was eager to get this deal done before training camp started so that he wouldn’t face any issues or conflicts. Now that everything is settled, he can focus on preparing for the 2023 season without any distractions.
