Spurs players react to Conte lashing out
Antonio Conte lashes out at Spurs players for lack of winning mentality
In a controversial conference with the press after the Southampton draw, Antonio Conte spoke out about his player’s lack of mentality at display. With the end of the season nearing, the Italian demands his players to give their 110% if the club wants to finish in the top four.
As of now, Spurs sit in 4th position with 49 points, but they do have Newcastle breathing down their necks with 47 points and two games in hand.
Danish Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg responded to the comments from the boss by asking him to be more specific with his remarks of criticism. Meanwhile, Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski understood the team indeed lacked the winning mentality.
What did Kulusevski have to say?
Responding to Sky Sports’ question on whether he was offended by the manager’s remark, the Swede replied: “No, because I know what I bring to the team everyday. I know that I prepare myself to do as good as I can and that’s why I can always look at myself in the mirror. Sometimes I know I don’t play [well] enough and I can take responsibility for that. But what [Conte] said is for him [to say], that’s his word. But I respect him, he helped me a lot during my career so he’s still a very important man in the club and in my work.”
Kulusevski went on to disagree with fellow teammate Hojbjerg justifying: “I don’t know, he was very disappointed like us players. We have to accept that we lost [in] all the cups, we went out of the Champions League. I know sometimes we have to be sad and angry, and that’s how he took it. We have to respect his words. Yes, absolutely [I am happy to keep working with him].”
