Spanish Soccer President Luis Rubiales Said, “I Won’t Resign” Amid World Cup Kiss Controversy
Spanish Football Federation President Luis Rubiales refused to resign after his controversial kiss at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 celebration.
Spanish Soccer head Luis Rubiales said “I won’t resign” amid the World Cup controversial kiss.
The roots of the drama were placed when Spain reigns over the England in Women’s World Cup last weekend. Rubiales is facing his possible removal from office after he kissed Jenni Hermoso, a Spanish soccer player on the lips without her consent during the Trophy celebration.
According to the Associated Press, Rubiales has no such plans to indulge those calls. In what was reportedly an emergency general assembly of the Spanish Soccer Federation (RFEF), Rubiales repeatedly said “I won’t resign” and claimed to be the victim of a witch hunt.
While Jenni Hermoso said the kiss wasn’t mutual, on the other end Rubiales claimed that the kiss was “mutual and with the consent”, and he is the one victim here. 46-year-old Rubiales was applauded by the majority of the members of the assembly dominated by the males.
Women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda and men’s national team coach Luis de la Fuente are the ones in support of Rubiales.

Jenni Hermoso already stated in an interview that she didn’t like the way President Luis kissed her but also admitted that there is nothing she can personally do about it.
However, the FIFA community opened up a disciplinary investigation against Luis Rubiales. It takes time, at least months to look at the situation and the behavior of the assembly members.
