Spanish Football President’s Resignation Imminent Following Controversial Kiss
Luis Rubiales, the head of the Spanish football federation, is reportedly getting ready to step down from his role after a series of issues caused by a controversial move.
As Per Cope’s Isaac Fouto and ESPN’s Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens, Rubiales, who is 46 years old, is likely to announce his resignation tomorrow due to increasing pressure after a big controversy that has been making headlines and causing a lot of discussions in the football world.
What triggered this decision was an incident right after the Spanish women’s team won against England in the Women’s World Cup Final last Sunday. After the victory, Rubiales kissed Spanish player Jenni Hermoso on the lips, and this has caused a lot of criticism and accusations of behaving inappropriately.

But that’s not all. Journalists Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens pointed out more instances that have raised concerns about Rubiales’ behavior, suggesting a pattern that made many people question if he’s suitable for his job.
Marsden and Llorens said, “The kiss forced on the lips of Hermoso has garnered most of the headlines, but he was also seen effusively hugging and kissing other Spain players on the cheek. Prior to that, immediately after Spain’s victory, he had also grabbed his crotch in a victory gesture with 16-year-old Princess Infanta Sofía and Queen Letizia of Spain standing nearby.”
Rubiales did say sorry to try to calm things down, but it seems like that wasn’t enough to make things better. FIFA, the football organization, seemed like they were going to start a case against him, which probably made him feel more pressure to step down.
Sources from Fouto reported that Pedro Rocha, who is the president of the Extremaduran Federation, will be the acting president of the Spanish Football Federation for now.

Rubiales, who became president in 2018, was initially praised for his contributions to Spanish football. But because of these recent issues, people are now wondering what’s next for the football federation and its leadership.
As Rubiales prepares to leave, everyone is waiting for the official announcement, which is expected to tell us more about what the football federation plans to do next after this unexpected change.
