Son Heung-Min clarifies his concern over his worrisome form
Tottenham star Son Heung-min admits that he himself is disappointed with himself given the poor run of form.
The South Korean was the league’s top scorer last season with 23 goals in 35 games. In this campaign, however, the attacker has managed to get just 4 goals in 21 appearances. This includes a hat trick against the Foxes who were bottom of the table, thus he has just scored in 2 games so far.
Despite struggling to finish chances given the facial injury, Son insists that that cannot be used as an excuse.
Word from Son Heung-Min
“I am not blaming that,” Son told the Daily Mail regarding his injury. “I am just really frustrated. If I wasn’t then I would be crazy. I am really honest about this. I have a chance to help the team but can’t seem to do it like last season.
“It is difficult. I am always watching my games back and trying to improve and see what I can do better.
“I have had some unbelievable previous years that I won’t forget but sometimes bad times make you stronger and I am just trying to speak positively now.
“I know the fans want more from me. So do I. I agree with them 100% when they criticize and I feel sorry to the team and the fans and the club. The expectation has been high because I have done well for so many years. I have to do that again.”
Spurs have been continuously slipping out of the top four picture having lost four of their last seven fixtures. However, not all ground is lost as Antonio Conte’s side sit 5th in the standings with a two-goal cushion over Newcastle United.
“We have to believe and we have done it before,” Son continued. “I prefer to speak from a better position, but, look, the manager has been having a tough time in his private life and we need to give him something back.
“I feel really sorry because he has given everything to me and I want to give him back everything he can possibly receive. I always want to give him my best. We have a good squad and we need to stick together in this tough time and show unity. That’s the most important thing.”
