Son feels responsible for Conte’s exit
Son feels guilty for not performing under Antonio Conte
After struggling to collect points in the second half of the season, Antonio Conte was sacked as Spurs feared losing top four. Meanwhile, Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min claims that he felt responsible for the Manager’s sacking as he failed to contribute to the team.
Despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot last season with 23 goals to his name, the South Korean has struggled to find the back of the net this season. As per Transfer market, Son has scored just 10 goals and assisted four across all competitions.
The forward admitted that he felt guilty that he ‘couldn’t help the team’ in a turbulent season for the club. Spurs currently sit fourth in the league standing, two points ahead of Newcastle. However, the Magpies have two games in hand and can easily climb above the London club.
What did Son Heung-Min say?
I’m very sorry for him,’ the South Korean began. ‘He is a World-class manager, we had a great journey together, I thank him a lot. I do not know how other players are thinking about him, but I’m sorry to him.”
‘I should have shown more, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t help the team and I felt responsible as he left the club.
‘He surely has great ability and experience as a coach and I’m sure he’ll have great success in his other career.’
Since Conte left, his brother Gianluca has left the club as well. In the meantime, it is former assistant Christian Stellini who has been working as an interim manager until Spurs finds Conte’s replacement.
