Shocker: MLB Team Sees Empty Seats in Crucial Playoff Opener at Tropicana Field

The Major League Baseball postseason began on Tuesday, featuring some exciting games. The first game was held at Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays faced off against the Texas Rangers in the playoffs’ Game 1.

Playoff games are usually packed with fans, but that wasn’t the case this time. When the game started on Tuesday, there were a lot of empty seats in the stadium, especially in the upper decks.

This is a big concern. According to Tyler Kepner of the Athletic, the number of people attending this game was the lowest in over a hundred years.

Tyler Kepner shared this surprising information on Twitter: “Here’s some perspective on today’s attendance of 19,704 at the Trop: according to @Stathead, it’s the lowest (non-Covid year) attendance for a postseason game in 104 years. Last one below 19,704 was Game 7 of the infamous 1919 World Series in Cincinnati.”

To make matters worse, the Tampa Bay Rays lost the game 4-0. It was a tough day for the team and its supporters.
