Shahid Afridi Responds to Gautam Gambhir’s Comments After India vs. Pakistan Match
The much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan match at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy during the Asia Cup 2023 was rained out on September 2. As a result, both teams had to settle for one point each in the group-stage match.
Before the rain interruption, India, led by Captain Rohit Sharma, scored 266 runs in 48.5 overs. Aside from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, the other batsmen struggled against Pakistan’s pace attack.
Despite the rain affecting the second innings, players from both teams, including Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, and Shadab Khan, were seen sharing a friendly moment.
While India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012 due to political tensions, the players maintain a strong bond and mutual respect. Fans also expressed their warm sentiments on social media.
However, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir expressed his displeasure with the camaraderie between India and Pakistan players during a conversation with Star Sports. He emphasized the need for a competitive and aggressive mindset on the field, separating friendship from the game.
In response to Gambhir’s remarks, Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi defended the players’ friendly interactions. Afridi emphasized that cricketers are ambassadors of their nations and should convey a message of love and respect. He noted that while there is aggression on the field, there is also life off the field.
Both India and Pakistan have advanced to the Super 4 stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.
