Sergio Busquets offered a new contract at Barcelona
Details of Busquets’ new contract revealed
As per a report from Diario Sport, Barcelona is preparing to offer their Captain, Sergio Busquets a new one-year contract with reduced terms however. The Catalans will be meeting to discuss the details with the midfielder next week. The new deal will offer the veteran €7m a year before taxes.
How will Busquets’ salary compare to the rest of the club?
As of now, Sergio is the second-highest earner at the club behind Frenkie De Jong with a yearly salary of €37m. However, renewing would mean a drastic drop in his wages which would put him below some of the young players such as Ansu Fati (€14m) and Ferran Torres (€10m).
Busquets’ future at the club
As per a reliable journalist, Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard is aware that the club will offer him a much lower salary as the club tries to reduce its wage bill ahead of next season. The same reason why Gerard Pique left and freed nearly €50m in wages.
The veteran, however, will refuse the contract extension if the offer is too low. He will see it as an indication from the club and leave accordingly.
The club captain has his eyes set to play in the US one day. Despite having lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the Spaniard prefers life in the United States.
Thus, if the Catalan decides to extend his stay, it will be due to Xavi’s influence on him.
