The match against Getafe was Busquets’ 700th for the club. He was welcomed on the pitch with a homage from President Joan Laporta.

Busquets is the player with the 3rd most appearances for Barca, with only Xavi and Messi ahead of him. This speaks volumes about his quality and longevity.

What makes Busquets one of a kind?

On Sunday against Getafe, Busquets delivered an exceptional performance. The thing that makes him so special is his ideology and his idea of how he sees the game. The saying “simplicity is genius” is what befits the Blaugrana captain.

Johan Cruyff often talked about the fact that playing the game in a simple yet elegant way was incredibly difficult. However, in the case of Sergio Busquets, less is more.

Getafe during the game was stubborn in nature. The team was composed of five at the back, which was making it difficult for Barca to penetrate the box.

Busquets’ display on the field went mostly unnoticed, so he failed to make the deadlines. However, that’s what he’s all about; in every play that Barca created, Busquets was involved in all of them.

All he does on the pitch is a pass here and a long ball there, a quick evade, and a give-and-go. It’s all he does to prove his class. The everyday fans in the stands do not understand the role he plays in the team’s functioning.

Ever since he made his debut in 2008, the club has gone through numerous phases and multiple coaches. However, none of them have been able to resist picking him in the starting lineup. His understanding of the position, along with his maturity in this role from a young age, is why Xavi and all the coaches before him have been successful in playing football ‘Barca Way,’ known as Tiki Taka.

However, eventually, the club will need to replace him and even go through a transition phase when he leaves the club or maybe retires.
