See Whats Martina Navratilova Views on Naomi Osaka
Martina Navratilova is looking forward to Naomi Osaka’s comeback next season, which the Japanese will begin at the Brisbane International in January. However, the American has advised prudence, noting that she would rather Osaka take her time rather than rush her recovery.
Following a year-long maternity leave, the four-time Grand Slam winner will return to the court as an unranked player next season. In an interview with the WTA, Navratilova conceded that it would take time for Osaka’s confidence to return.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion believes the former World No. 1 will be back in the mix in early March, maybe at the Sunshine Double, where she has previously enjoyed success. Navratilova went on to say that it would be excellent for tennis if Naomi Osaka could battle her way back to the top and be her “amazing self.”
“I’m really excited to see how this all plays out.” After the break, she’ll need some time to get her match legs back under her and her confidence flowing again. I hope she takes things slowly rather than too quickly.”
“I believe she’ll be back in the mix, back to her amazing self, by Indian Wells in early March.” In 2018, she won the championship there. “It would be fantastic for the sport if she could return to the top,” Martina Navratilova stated.
Martina Navratilova on Qinwen Zheng, whose coach just joined Naomi Osaka’s team: “She’s a player to be reckoned with in the future.”
Martina Navratilova also spoke about Qinwen Zheng, describing the Chinese star as a “big, big talent” to keep an eye on in the 2024 season. Interestingly, Zheng was previously coached by Wim Fissette, who controversially departed her squad midway through the season to join Naomi Osaka’s entourage starting next year.
“She is a huge talent.” And I believe she’ll be energized by Fissette’s unexpected exit when she returns to coach Naomi Osaka.
“She’s a woman on a mission, and she’s the athlete to get the job done,” Martina Navratilova said.”Depending on what her next coach does, how much she buys into it, she’s a player to be reckoned with in the future,” she said.
Zheng earned her first WTA championship in Palermo this season, as well as gold in the women’s singles at the Asian Games.
