Sean Payton is doing a worse job at coaching the Broncos than Nathaniel Hackett ever did
Kettle, meet the pot now. Sean Payton is his full name. And his Denver Broncos are a complete mess.
Immediately after criticizing former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett for performing one of the worst coaching performances we’ve ever witnessed, Payton outdoes him.
That could be unfair since, well, it might be too soon. But, man, hey. I never saw a Hackett Broncos team score 20 points, only to lose by 50. At least Hackett’s teams had some early-season success.
I’ll be open about it. Normally, I wouldn’t say I like using karma in sports commentary. It’s a bit cliche, though. But you can’t help it since this is so delicious right now.
Payton was puffed up at Broncos camp only two months ago, criticizing everyone for the poor job they had done with the squad that came before them. The golden child is how he pictured himself. The rescuer. He was starting a brand-new era of Broncos football that would be flawless. He was putting on a show as though he wasn’t the same person who destroyed the Saints. It was absurd in every way.
Look at where we are right now. His defense, which was strong under Hackett and his staff, only let up 70 points in one game. The Broncos have no victories. Even in a news conference, he struggles to keep his ears from steaming up. The guy is done. The Denver Broncos are done. Their season appears to be finished.
Broncos supporters, the season still needs to be finished! Denver can make things better. The Loser Has to Leave Town bowl is the Broncos’ next matchup against the Bears. Denver hosts the Jets the next week for the Nathaniel Hackett retribution game. Is this the first of two victories in a row? After five weeks, a 2-3 record is all right.
But it’s hardly a great indication of where things are going that we’re already attempting to concoct timetable victories.
In his own words, Payton seems to be getting ready to be “pissed off.” as they are not a playoff team. This squad is not a play-in one. By the end of the season, it may not even resemble an NFL club. Caleb Williams, at the very least, maybe in Denver’s future, but given how the club is currently playing, he would likely bolt from the grind so quickly if the Broncos were to select him first. I can’t hold him responsible for this.
The Denver Broncos are done. Best wishes, Sean Payton. You were the actor. Nathaniel Hackett must be taking pleasure in this.
