Seahawks safety Jamal Adams leaves with concussion in first game in a year

Jamal Adams, who returned to the field for the first time in almost a year, did not stay long.

Adams was injured on the ninth play of the Seattle Seahawks’ “Monday Night Football” game against the New York Giants when Giants quarterback Daniel Jones’ leg connected with Adams’ helmet in front of the Seattle sideline.

The seventh-year safety was still down and required help getting off the field to the sideline medical tent. He ultimately made his way to the dressing room, where he was declared out.

ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters said Adams was “heated” that the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant called for his removal.

Adams mised the the rest of the 2022 season after he suffered a significant quadriceps injury in Week 1. He underwent season-ending shoulder surgery the previous year.

Adams informed reporters last week that he was thinking about retiring after his most recent rehab stint. He stated that he had been in a straight cast for more than three months.

“I don’t take days for granted,” Adams explained on Friday. “This injury did not only educate me more about football. It taught me a lot about life, my mission, and how I conduct my business.”

Adams was taken sixth overall by the New York Jets in the 2017 draft out of Louisville. He was named first-team All-Pro in 2019 and demanded a trade after the Jets did not offer him a long-term contract that suited him following that season. His destination was Seattle, which offered him a four-year, $70 million deal in 2021.

The Giants are suffering with two injuries to important offensive players. Rookie center John-Michael Schmitz was injured in the shoulder, while tight end Daniel Bellinger was wounded in the knee. Both have been ruled out.

With a calf injury, Seahawks guard Phil Haynes will also miss the rest of the game.
