Scottie Pippen suggested to LeBron James that he could surpass Michael Jordan
For years, this debate centered on LA Lakers star LeBron James and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan & continues to be an ongoing discussion. James has also declared himself a GOAT following his 3-1 comeback in the 2016 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
For years, a strong majority of NBA fans had Jordan as the GOAT. However, the star forward didn’t even think he could surpass Jordan.
Back in 2011
Scottie Pippen, Jordan’s former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer, made a bold claim against him. James Pippen said that LeBron James could be better than Jordan.
He was only 26 at the time and had yet to win his first NBA championship.
Of course, he wasn’t even close to passing Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. However, James proved that Pippen’s prediction was wrong, as he won four titles and passed Jordan in all-time scoring.
Scottie Pippen says Michael Jordan ruined the game of basketball
Scottie Pippen hasn’t always been a supporter of Michael Jordan; most people believe this. Previously, Pippen and Jordan had famously won six titles together with Chicago in the 1990s. However, all of the credit has gone to Jordan.
That’s the reason why Pippen grew more discontented following his portrayal in Jordan’s documentary “The Last Dance” in 2020. And that’s how it all started.
In his memoir, “Unguarded,” Pippen made some strong statements regarding his former teammate. That’s why he said that Jordan ruined the game.
After all this, he reiterated that he’s always believed LeBron James to be the GOAT.
