Scholes defends Bruno Fernandes after Liverpool’s criticism
‘I feel sorry for him,’ Man Utd legend Paul Scholes defends Bruno Fernandes
After a woeful display against Liverpool as United lost 7-0 at Anfield, Bruno Fernandes has been the target of criticism. The Portuguese midfielder has received hatred for his lack of effectiveness and annoying habits on the pitch.
However, United legend Paul Scholes has come to his rescue. The former Red Devil is of the opinion that the defeat was a result of poor team performance, thus Fernandes should not be singled out. He justified Bruno’s struggle after being placed wideout, rather than his natural playmaking role in the center.
What did Paul Scholes say?
Paul Scholes defended the Portuguese by saying, “I actually feel sorry for him when he’s played. He’s been pushed out to various positions to do a job for the team. He was on the left today, he’s been on the right, he’s played through the middle – he has been a little bit all over the place.
“You can’t say any of the players performed the way they should have done, but I thought he was especially poor today; it wasn’t his greatest afternoon. But I think there are a couple of players on that team that when it comes to big games like this, I don’t think they’re quite at the level.”
Nevertheless, the Manchester United midfielder will look to win back the fan’s trust as United hope to get back on the winning track.
The loss against Liverpool showed that United still has far to go if they want to compete against the best in Europe.
