According to Foxnews.com, Mohammed bin Salman doesn’t care and belives if it will help in growth terms of GDP then he will continue sportswashing. He added,
“One percent growth of GDP from sport and I’m aiming for another one-and-a-half percent — call it whatever you want, we’re going to get that one-and-a-half percent.”
Last few years, PIF (Public Investment Fund) of Saudi Arabia has been increasing investing into the multiple international sports. That includes the LIV Golf which hired some high profile golfers from PGA Tour. LIV Golf also offered a very lucrtivee offers including Tiger Woods who rejected to be the part of the East side golf community.
However, LIV golf and PGA Tour ended up merging and all the golers sacrifices who denied the LIV offer went straight to waste. PIF is not only interfering with Golf but International soccer too.
Recently with the help of PIF, soccer’s Saudi Pro League spent nearly $1 billion acquiring several European-based stars, including Brazilian forward Neymar. Cristiano Ronaldo joined the league in January.
Some critics questioned these kind of large scale investment will brainwashed the image of Saudi Arabia’s world wide reputation. However, Mohammed bin Salman said that Saudi Arabia has been moving from his inhumane behaviours such as the dismemberment of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi.
He cited every person who was involed with Khashoggi’s murder is currently serving prison time and that they “must face the law.”
The league’s games are broadcast in the United States by Fox Sports.
