San Antonio Spurs in Alamodome, Texas: Historic Moment for NBA as the Team Prepares to Break the Attendance Records
The Spurs will be playing in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. It will be a historic moment for the NBA, as there will be a lot of people there to see the match. It is expected that the attendance will reach more than 60,000, which is itself a record for the NBA.
The San Antonio stadium is the 59th biggest stadium in the United States, with an average seating capacity of around 19,000, which makes it the most popular stadium for organizing matches.
The Spurs will host their next game at this stadium because of their 50th anniversary. Friday night will be the 3rd time that the Spurs will be playing their home game away from the AT&T Center.
Why Are The Spurs Playing In The Alamodome?
If you are a big fan of the NBA, you must know that the Spurs play their home games at the AT&T Center. With a massive capacity of 64,000, the stadium can fit at least three times more visitors than the current arena.
The main reason is their 50th anniversary. In 1973, the team moved to San Antonio, and they also used the stadium from the time it was built in 1993 until 2002.
Despite this, the Spurs will face a difficult challenge as Steph Curry returns to the Warriors. And the Spurs will have the support of thousands of people across the stadium, which will help them.
Largest Attendance
Friday night’s match at the Alamodome will set a record for the largest attendance. Previously, the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks set a record of 62,046 in 1998. The record was held by the Pistons; playing at the Pontiac Silverdome, the Pistons drew 52,745 attendees in 1987, and a year later, it was 61,983.
However, the Spurs’ attendance record is 39,554 people. During Game 2 of the 1999 NBA Finals, the record was set when the Spurs defeated the New York Knicks by 80–67.
