Salernitana Suffers An Embarrassing Defeat With Ochoa In The Goal
In the 18th round of Serie A football, Guillermo Ochoa had a night to forget. Salernitana suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Atalanta with an 8-2 scoreline. After failing to save two penalties, the Mexican international could not save his team from losing points which leaves them in fear of relegation.
It was clear from the initial moments of the game that Salernitana is in for a thrashing. Jeremie Boga opened the scoring for Atalanta within 5 minutes of action. This was followed by an equalizer from Boulaye Dia which gave the Granata a sigh of relief.
Salernitana held on for another 10 minutes until the referee awarded a penalty to Atalanta. The penalty was given around the 20th-minute mark after being reviewed by the VAR. Ademola Lookman stepped up to take the penalty and he successfully beat the Mexican in charge. Ochoa did dive in the right direction but was unable to keep the ball out.
Salernitana Fall Apart
This was just the tip of the iceberg of the suffering that Salernitana had to go through. Three minutes after the penalty, Giorgio Scalvini netted a third for the home team. This was followed by a 38th minutes penalty which was scored on a rebound.
Just a few minutes before the halftime whistle blew, Rasmus Winther Hojlund scored another against the Mexican goalkeeper. Ochoa was seen walking into the dressing room with his head lying low with shame.
The Granata did not come prepared in the second half of the game as Ademola Lookman scored his second of the game in the 54th minute of the game. Salertina, however, did show some desire to fight back with a goal from Hans Nicolussi. Nevertheless, it was too late as the three points were already in the bag for Atalanta.
The Goals Keep Flying Past Memo
Ederson and Nadir Zortea scored another two goals in the final stretches of the game. This came as the biggest upset of his playing career for the Veteran in goal. After this game, Salernitana with 18 points sits just two places above the relegation zone with a cushion of 9 points.
Despite the heavy loss, Ochoa and his teammates must stay strong and not let the negative result spoil their hopes. After all, the Granata are fighting to stay in the top division of Italy.
