Sachin Tendulkar Joins PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath in Varanasi Cricket Stadium Groundbreaking Event

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, took part in a special event to celebrate the start of construction for a new international cricket stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This cricket stadium holds added significance as it is located in Varanasi, which is also the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Modi. The goal is to create a state-of-the-art sports facility that meets modern standards.

In addition to Sachin Tendulkar, other cricketing icons like Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dilip Vengsarkar were invited to participate in this event in Varanasi. Key figures from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), including President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah, were also in attendance.

The construction of this international stadium is a joint effort between the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The state government invested ₹121 crore in acquiring the land, while BCCI is expected to allocate around ₹330 crore for the stadium’s construction.

The stadium’s design is inspired by Lord Shiva, featuring distinctive elements such as curved roof canopies, floodlights resembling tridents, seating arranged like steps similar to those found on river ghats, and metallic sheets on the façade shaped like Bilvipatra. The stadium is planned to accommodate up to 30,000 spectators.

Prime Minister Modi had multiple engagements during his visit to Varanasi. After the stone-laying ceremony for the international stadium, he was scheduled to visit the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Centre, and participate in the closing ceremony of Kashi Sansad Sanskritik Mahotsav 2023.

During the program, Prime Minister Modi was set to dedicate 16 Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas (residential schools) that have been constructed across Uttar Pradesh.

In a social media post, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his excitement about these developments and congratulated the Prime Minister for adding another significant chapter to the journey of Varanasi, a city revered for its spiritual significance.
